Recorded 56 Years Ago on June 21, 1969!
Swiss Movement was born from an impromptu jam session at the 1969 Montreux Jazz Festival. Les McCann's trio, featuring Leroy Vinnegar and Donald Dean, were joined by Eddie Harris and Benny Bailey. Despite never having played together before, the chemistry between the musicians was electric, leading to a memorable performance that captivated the audience and festival organizers. Atlantic Records paid less than $100 for the tapes, releasing the album and the hit track Compared To What to critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination. Jazz PHX will also feature selections from the follow-up 1971 album Second Movement.
